SNMCMG-2 - Minehunter ‘Duero’ (M-35)

Purpose of the mission Activities

The main mission of Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group Two (SNMCMG-2) is to contribute to keep the Alliance’s ports and naval bases open to shipping, and facilitate the power projection capability of amphibious operations. Its tasks include the detection, identification and destruction of sea mines (both, bottom and moored mines).

Hence, allied ships integrated into this mine countermeasures group will conduct routine patrols and exercises to implement and improve naval MCM techniques and procedures, and enhance joint training and interoperability.

Minehunter ‘Duero’ will participate in the multinational exercise ‘POSEIDON’ and, on her way back to Spain, the ‘Duero’ will also take part in exercise ‘ARIADNE’ in Greek waters.

During this three-month deployment under NATO’s flag, the ‘Duero’ will provide support to Operation ‘SEA GUARDIAN’ intended to boost maritime domain awareness and the protection of the maritime environment against possible terrorist activities.
