• The Project Definition of a warship is a complex engineering process due to the great number of activities involved. The PAPS method (Phased Armaments Programming System) was used.
• In the international organisations where Spain participates, the enhancement of the strategic projection capability is a priority within the military defence planning process which has been translated into the Strategic Defence Review.
• In order to carry out these missions, it is necessary to promote the procurement of adequate means, among them, the shipbuilding of a Strategic Projection Ship.
• The shipbuilding programme, already started, implies the use of new and highly technical developments which means a step forward for the Spanish firms involved.
• The Ministerial Order 600/16679/2006 of October 19th, assigned the name “Juan Carlos I” to the Strategic Projection Ship.

In proposal of Admiral Chief of Staff of the Navy and under the provisions of article point three second of the Ministerial Order of 18 February 1980 on appellation of ships:

AUGMENTATION:

Article unique. It assigns the name of "Juan Carlos I" to the Ship Strategic Projection currently under construction.
