The Commandant General of the United Kingdom Royal Marines, Major General Robert Magowan, paid a visit to the Spanish Marine Corps Headquarters and was welcomed by the Spanish Marine Corps Commandant, Major General Jesús Manuel Vicente. Both generals had a meeting where they discussed topics of mutual interest like cooperation and interoperability between both military services.

They later visited the ‘Tercio de Armada’ where they were toured around its facilities and were briefed on the operational aspects of the Spanish Marine Corps Brigade, paying special attention to the Reinforced Landing Battalion.

General Magowan subsequently visited Rota Naval Base and boarded the amphibious landing helicopter dock (LHD) ‘Juan Carlos I’ where her Commanding Officer expounded on the ship’s capabilities and special features.

The visit concluded with a meeting with the Spanish Fleet Commander, Admiral Juan Rodríguez Garat.
