A Special Operations unit (Maritime) from the Spanish Special Naval Warfare Force (FGNE in its Spanish initials) has recently integrated into a SO tactical group made up of elements from the Spanish Army, Air Force and ‘Guardia Civil’ (Gendarmerie) to participate in Exercise ‘Flintlock’ organized in Mauritania by the United States Special Operations Command for Africa (SOCAFRICA), in turn, subordinated to the US Africa Command (AFRICOM).

During the exercise, the Spanish Navy’s FGNE participated in military assistance tasks, side by side with a SO unit from Cape Verde with which Spain has been collaborating for years.

In this yearly military cooperation exercise conducted in or around the Sahel area, regional units from Mauritania, Senegal and Cape Verde participated to enhance their combat capabilities and other aspects like planning, combined missions, tactics, firing drills, etc., in a joint-combined desert scenario.
