The Council of Ministers has appointed Admiral Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, Chief of the Spanish Navy (AJEMA).
Since August 2012, Admiral López Calderón had been Defense Joint Operations Commander.

The Council of Minister has appointed Admiral Teodoro Esteban López Calderón Chief of the Spanish Navy, replacing the outgoing AJEMA, Admiral general Jaime Muñoz-Delgado y Díaz del Río.

Admiral López Calderón served, since August 2012, as the Defense Joint Operations Commander. He had previously been Commander of the Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG-2), combining his post with the Chief of Surface Units participating in the counter-terrorist Operation ‘Active Endeavor’ in the Mediterranean Sea.

Ashore, Admiral López Calderón was President of the Spanish Section of the U.S-Spain Permanent Committee; Chief of Strategic Plans Section of the Plans Division of the Spanish Naval Staff; Chief of Operations of the Naval Operational Command, and Adviser to the Minister of Defense in his Technical Cabinet.

He was also assigned to the Tactical Studies Cabinet of the Spanish Naval Staff.

Admiral Teodoro Esteban López Calderón was born in Cartagena (Murcia). He is married to Isabel and has five children.
