Frigate ‘Reina Sofía’, wraps up her integration into the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG-1).
The Spanish warship became an element of NATO’s immediate reaction force in the Atlantic Ocean, North and Baltic Seas.

Frigate ‘Reina Sofía’ has just returned to Rota Naval Base after a two-month deployment integrated into Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG-1). The welcoming ceremony was presided over by Vice-admiral Manuel Garat.

During her deployment, the ship conducted several maritime domain awareness missions and different training activities, among them exercise ‘Joint Warrior 171’ along with other naval units from NATO nations. The ‘Reina Sofía’ visited several North-European ports in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Denmark.

The ‘Reina Sofía’ is the fourth unit of the six ‘Santa María’-class frigates (F-80). For this mission the F-84, with a crew of 180 people, embarked a ‘Tercio de Armada’ Marine Cops security squad and support personnel for the ship’s SH-60B helicopter.

Frigate ‘Reina Sofía’ has participated in many national and international operations and exercises, among them the counter-piracy operation ‘Atalanta’ in the Indian Ocean and the humanitarian aid operation ‘Sophia’ in the Mediterranean Sea.
