The training ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ has visited the city of New York for the 31st time. The ship docked in the Cruisers Wharf of Manhattan.

Last Wednesday, the ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ welcomed the Spanish Ambassador to the U.S. and that afternoon a reception was held for different local and UN authorities. Next day, the midshipmen visited the nuclear submarines base in New London. Other institutions visited by the future Spanish Navy officers were the United Nations Headquarters and the ‘Instituto Cervantes’.

The crew had time to visit important museums of New York like the MoMA or the Metropolitan, and the ship’s music band played a concert in the emblematic Time Square.

The ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ also welcomed many visitors and students from 6 schools. On Sunday, a poignant pledge to the flag ceremony was held on board for Spanish citizens living in the Big Apple.

The training ship left New York last Monday heading towards Marín (NW Spain) where she is scheduled to take part in the forthcoming festivities to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Spanish Naval Academy (former Royal Midshipmen Company).
