The training ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ has visited the city of Antwerp for the first time after sailing through River Scheldt for more than 45 miles.

On June 29th the ship welcomed the Spanish Ambassador to Belgium and in the afternoon of that same day the Minister of Defense, in Belgium for work purposes, also visited the ship.

Next day, the Spanish midshipmen paid a visit to NATO’s Headquarters in Brussels in the morning, and the magnificent 16th century Town Hall in the afternoon, before welcoming the Belgian Minister of Defense that evening.

Saturday was spent doing tourism in the cities of Bruges and Ghent and on Sunday the ship organized a pledge of allegiance to the flag ceremony for 47 Spanish citizens living in Belgium.

During the open days the ship received the visit of 3,653 people.

The training ship is now sailing towards her last destination, the city of Marin where the midshipmen will bring the 89th Training Cruise to a close.
