Frigate ‘Numancia’ heads for Kiel to integrate into the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG-1)

From September 2 to November 9, frigate ‘Numancia’ (F-83) will integrate into the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG-1) along with other eight warships from seven different nationalities. The farewell ceremony was presided over by Vice-admiral Antonio Martorell, Naval Action Commander.

The purpose of the deployment is to take part in this naval rapid reaction force as a contribution and commitment of Spain with this NATO’s collective security endeavors.

These standing naval groups enjoy high levels of availability with an ample catalogue of capabilities, ready to deploy in crisis scenarios wherever and whenever necessary.

The Spanish Navy frigate, after an intense operational qualification period and sea trials, will participate as part of SNMG-1 in a series of high intensity multinational exercises like ‘Northern Coast’ in Danish waters, and ‘Noble Mariner-17’ in the Gulf of Lion. The F-83 is scheduled to visit the following ports: Kiel (Germany), Toulon (France), Malaga and Rota (Spain).
