Anti-air Exercise in the Gulf of Cadiz
Monday, November 06, 2017

The Spanish Navy has recently organized an anti-air exercise in the Gulf of Cadiz (SW Spain) firing a series of AA missiles. Participating units included the F-80 frigates ‘Santa María’, ‘Navarra’ and ‘Canarias’. Other warships also took part in surveillance and support tasks like the F-100 frigate ‘Almirante Juan de Borbón’, OPV ‘Vigía’, and auxiliary ships ‘Medas’, ‘La Graña’ and ‘P-101’.

These drills are intended to enhance the training of the different crews and to test the proper operation of all anti-air systems involved: detection, fire control, launchers, computer programs, etc., as well as the efficiency of the ‘Standard SM-1’ missiles.

In the course of the exercise conducted on Sunday 5th, 10 missiles were fired from the three frigates against ‘Scarb’ target drones of indigenous design, simulating fighter and missile attacks against a naval force.
