Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 11 July 1952, he joined the Navy in 1971 and was promoted to SubLieutenant in 1976. Lieutenant in 1979, Lieutenant Commander in 1989, Commander in 1996 and Captain in 2001. In October 2006 he was promoted to Rear Admiral, Vice Admiral in 2008 and Admiral in January 2012.
A specialist in submarines and communications, he holds Royal Navy and Spanish Navy diplomas in Naval Warfare after attending the Royal Navy Staff Course at Greenwich. He has attended a number of courses both abroad and at the Defense Senior Studies Centre in Spain.
His main assignments at sea were on board frigates Andalucía and Vicente Yáñez Pinzón and submarinesMarsopa, Tonina, Siroco and Narval. XO on board submarine Galerna and corvette Vencedora, when she was deployed on the Red Sea during the I Gulf War in 1991.
His first Command at sea was the Patrol Boat Bergantín. As a Lieutenant Commander he was assigned to submarine Siroco as Commanding Officer, deploying in the Adriatic during Operation Sharp Guard and becoming the first Spanish Navy submarine to be deployed in a Peace Keeping Operation. He commanded the LST Hernán Cortés in Operations Charlie Sierra and Sierra Kilo. As a Captain, he was appointed Commander, Submarine Flotilla and Principal, Submarine School in 2004.
His main assignments ashore were the Submarine Staff, Operations Branch of the Naval Staff and Head of Doctrine, Personnel Directorate. As Vice Admiral, he was appointed Director for Maintenance, Logistic Support Commmand and Commander, Cartagena Logistic Support and Naval Base.
He is the Commander, Logistic Support Command from January 2012.
Among his decorations are the Naval Merit Cross (five) and Great Cross, and Kuwait Liberation, NATO and EU Medals.
A widow, he has six children..
