Major General Pablo Miguel Bermudo y de Espinosa

Major General Pablo Miguel Bermudo y de Espinosa was born in Melilla on February 15th 1951. He entered the Spanish Naval Academy in 1972 and was promoted to Marine Corps first lieutenant in 1977.

Between 1977 and 1980 he served as Lieutenant in the Marine Corps (MC) "Tercio de Armada", the MC Training Centre and the Royal Guard. He was promoted to Captain in 1980 and appointed lecturer at the Diving School in Cartagena. In 1983 he commanded the Madrid Group 2nd Company. In 1985 he returned to the "Tercio de Armada" as Captain of the 2nd Howitzer Battery of the Landing Artillery Group. In 1988 he was appointed Chief of Operations of the same Group and also took command of the 3rd Self-propelled Howitzer Battery. He was promoted to Major in 1990.

Between 1991 and 1994 he was Chief of the Operations Section of the Landing Group. Subsequently he was Executive Officer and Chief of Staff of the Second Landing Battalion. In 1994 he was assigned for a year to the Marine Corps General Headquarters.

From January 1997 to January 2000, and as Lieutenant-Colonel, he was a Staff Officer in the Spanish Military Mission in SACLANT, Norfolk (USA). Between 2000 and 2002 he was Chief of Staff of the Marine Corps Brigade. From April of that year to July 2003 he was Chief of the Intelligence Division of the NATO South-Western Joint Headquarters.

After several assignments in NATO posts he was appointed Director-Superintendent of the Marine Corps School "General Albacete y Fuster".

From July 2007 to March 2008 he was EUFOR's Chief of Staff in Operation ALTHAE in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In September 2007 he was promoted to Brigadier General and appointed Deputy Commandant General of the Marine Corps. In October 30th 2009 he was appointed Commanding General of the "Tercio de Armada" and the Marine Corps Brigade.

On January 4th 2011 he was promoted to Major General and appointed Commandant General of the Marine Corps.

Major General Bermudo y de Espinosa has Joint Staff and Army Staff diplomas. He is a deep diver specialist and combat diver. He has the speciality in Diving Technology and Artillery and Fire Co-ordination.
