In the course of a routine fisheries campaign off the coast of Alicante, the patrol boat found a drug haul aboard the trawler ‘Sana’ during a scheduled inspection. Several packages containing 30-40 kilos of hashish were found among the fishing nets.

The patrol boat’s VBSS squad (visit, board, search & seizure) arrested four Spanish citizens and towed the trawler to Alicante where she was handed to the corresponding authorities.

The ‘Arnomendi’ (P-63) was built at the Freire Shipyards in Vigo as a result of an agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. She was launched in January 2000 and delivered to the Spanish Navy in December of that year.

The P-63 belongs to the Maritime Action Force and has a complement of 37 people.
