CHENS is a forum of 25 Chiefs of Staff of European Navies (NATO and EU) which met in Naples on May 7th and 8th.
Additionally, observers from the United States, NATO and the European Union also attended this year’s meeting chaired by Italy.
The forum was set up in 1990 to promote understanding between navies of the member countries, to examine issues of common and mutual interest and to increase awareness of the maritime domain in member countries. It meets once a year.
The Spanish Navy was represented by its Chief of Staff, Admiral Jaime Muñoz Delgado, accompanied by the Chief of his Inner Cabinet, Captain Eugenio Díaz del Río.
This year the main discussions focused on the requirements of Navies in this changing world, the partnerships between European and North-African Navies and the control of maritime borders in the Mediterranean Sea.
