Exercise MARFIBEX-51, conducted last week in the Gulf of Cadiz and the Sierra del Retin range has successfully concluded. It was an advanced training exercise for embarked Staffs. The Naval Action Group-2 and the Marine Corps ‘Tercio de Armada’ joined forces to form an operational Amphibious Force for these manoeuvers.
Participating units included the Marine Corps Brigade, the LHD ‘Juan Carlos I’, the COMGRUP-2 Staff, the LPD ‘Castilla’, Beach Naval Group craft, fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, and the Cadiz Diving Units on board the LHD.
MARFIBEX-51 was jointly commanded by Rear-admiral Antonio Martorell and MC Brigadier General Javier Hertfelder. Around 1680 people participated in the different stages of the exercise.
Exercise Stages
Stage I: Operational planning between the two Staffs. Embarkation of 142 vehicles and 8 landing craft (LCM).
Stage II: Deployment of naval units and participation of different aircraft. Transit towards the amphibious operations range.
Stage III: Basic collective training focused on amphibious and air operations and defense against asymmetric threats.
