This morning, the auxiliary oiler and replenishment ship ‘Patiño’, arrived at Ferrol (NW Spain) after participating in the counterpiracy operation ‘Atalanta’ in the Indian Ocean. This was the third deployment of the ‘Patiño’ in this EU-led operation. On this occasion 188 days away from her base, the longest deployment so far.
The ‘Patiño’, with a complement of 150 people and under command of Cdr. Ricardo Fernández López, is a replenishment ship which can provide up to 9 million liters of fuel and 2,000 cubic meters of ammunition, materiel and provisions.
For this mission, the ship embarked an SH-60B helicopter and a Marine Corps operational security team, a special naval warfare squad and medical personnel.
