During the weekend the Spanish Navy celebrated several activities including open-doors days in warships and units, guided visits, exhibitions of military materiel and scale models, music concerts, canine unit shows and ceremonial flag raisings


On the occasion of the Armed Forces Day, several Spanish Navy units have organized a series of cultural and informative events from May 27th to June 2nd to let our fellow citizens know the missions entrusted to the Navy in pursuance of Spain’s defense goals in the maritime domain.

During the weekend the Spanish Navy celebrated several activities including open-doors days in warships and units, guided visits, exhibitions of military materiel and ship scale models, music concerts, canine unit shows and ceremonial flag raisings. The 2nd Armed Forces Boat Race “Admiral Sánchez-Barcáiztegui Memoral” was held in Santander.

Apart from the homage and wreath laying ceremony in Madrid for those who gave their lives for Spain, the Navy organized several events in different parts of Spain.

Andalusia

The Malaga Naval Command organized an open-doors day with a scale models exhibition. In Cádiz open-doors days were arranged in San Lorenzo Fort and Maritime Action ships in Puntales Naval Station.

In San Fernando (Cádiz) open-doors days were organized in the Marine Corps Headquarters, Arsenal, Naval Observatory, Petty-Officers School and Naval Museum. The Marine Corps also set up an exhibition with its modern equipment and vehicles.

Mediterranean Area

Saturday and Sunday were open-doors days in different Balearic Islands naval facilities like Mahon Naval Station.

In Cartagena two naval units were opened for the general public: the submarine ‘Tramontana’ and the F-100 frigate ‘Cristóbal Colón’. Other facilities organized open-doors days, namely the Marine Corps, the Mine Countermeasures Flotilla and the Navy Diving School. A show by the Canine Unit was also organized and the ‘Tercio de Levante’ Music Band gave a concert at San Sebastian Square.

Galicia and Cantabria

During the whole weekend, the Military Arsenal of Ferrol organized open-doors days with visits to several patrol boats and frigates. In Santander, the 2nd Armed Forces Boat Race “Admiral Sánchez-Barcáiztegui Memoral” was the highlight of the naval celebrations.

Madrid

In the capital of Spain, the citizens were able to visit the Naval Museum located at the Paseo del Prado. In the northern part of the city where there are several Navy and Marine Corps facilities a Canine Unit and Operational Security Team show was organized, as well as a concert by the MC Music Band.
