Frigate ‘Méndez Núñez’ welcomes the US Secretary of the Navy.

Last Thursday, the F-100 frigate ‘Méndez Núñez’ welcomed the U.S. Secretary of the Navy, Richard V. Spencer in Norfolk Naval Base. The SECNAV, was accompanied by the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development and Acquisition), James F. Geurts, the Defense and Naval Attachés of Spain in the USA, the Commanding Officer of the US Carrier Group 12, Rear-admiral John Wade and the Commander of the Second US Destroyers Squadron, Captain Sean Anderson.

The F-104’s commanding officer gave a briefing on the frigate’s characteristics and capabilities and the US entourage was afterwards toured around the ‘Méndez Núñez’. The visit ended with the SECNAV signing in the F-104’s Guest Book.

During her port of call in Norfolk, the ‘Méndez Núñez’ was the subject of a great deal of interest among local and allied military and civilian authorities.

The F-104 arrived at the US Navy Naval Base of Norfolk (VA) last January 14th after an 11-day voyage from Ferrol (NW Spain). The frigate will participate in the Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) integrated into the US Carrier Group 12 in the east coast of the United States.
