The Spanish Navy Training Ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ has called at the U.S. port of New York this morning, June 15, docking at pier 86, in Manhattan, where she will stay until June 20. This is the thirty-second time that the ship has visited this city. It is, in fact, the most visited foreign port in the world by the ship. A total of 250 sailors are currently on board, of whom 74 are midshipmen belonging to the 425th promotion of the Navy General Corps and 155th promotion of the Spanish Marine Corps.

On this cruise, the ship has made its 16th round trip to South America. After Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Punta Arenas, El Callao, Cartagena de Indias, Puerto Limón and Pensacola, the voyage continued to New York. After this stopover, she will cross the Atlantic to return to Spain, docking at the Naval Academy (Marín) where the midshipmen will conclude their training. The ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ will then sail from Marin to Cadiz, where she is expected to arrive on July 21, 2023.

In port, the protocol activities will focus on courtesy visits by the Commanding Officer to local civilian and military authorities. As usual, a reception will be held on board. Likewise, a Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag ceremony will be held, also on board, where Spanish citizens residing in New York who so requested, will be able to make public their commitment to Spain by kissing the ship's flag.

It is planned to invite United Nations personnel to the ship during the stay in port, as well as to visit its Headquarters on the morning of June 19.

Open days will be organized at the following times:

Sunday 18th and Monday 19th: from 09:30 to 13:30 and from 16:00 to 20:30.
