Hydrographic survey boat "ESCANDALLO" (A-92)

Its cruising speed is 20 knots but when deployed to conduct hydrographic surveys with its multi-beam sounders, the speed is reduced to 8 knots. The data collecting capability has a 70 degree aperture in each band and, depending on the depth, up to 400 meters in each scan.

The Hydrographic Survey Boat ‘ESCANDALLO’ was commissioned in February 2004, with serial number A-92. This is the second survey boat of the series and was built in the RODMAN shipyards in Vigo (NW Spain).

Its main mission is to conduct hydrographic surveys in ports, approaches and anchorages. In addition, the vessel can also carry out the following missions:

• Search and pinpoint wreckages and underwater pipelines.
• Examine and check nautical charts, sea lines, annual directories of tides, lighthouses’ books, coast lines, buoys positioning, and any other hydrographic control issues.
• Installation of tide gauges to determine the hydrographic zero.
• Collection of data related to port communications, pilotage, shipping control devices, wreckages, submarine emissions and fish farms.
