MARE APERTO-17 – Minehunter ‘Sella’ (M-32)

Purpose of the mission Activities

The main mission of the international exercise MARE APERTO-17, organized by the Italian Navy, is to train allied units for a possible joint military intervention. Participating task groups included the Standing NATO Maritime Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG-2) and units from EUROMARFOR.

The exercise will take place in the south of Sardinia and will consist of different drills on mine hunting, force protection, amphibious landings and maritime operations. MCM units will simulate hunting and sweeping exercises to clean the bays of Cagliari and Teulada.

During the 20 days the ‘Sella’ is scheduled to be out of base, the ship will also participate in support of operation ‘Sea Guardian’ intended to enhance maritime situational awareness (MSA), risk managements plans (RMP) and protection against possible terrorist activities in the Mediterranean Sea.
